The GoodLife ® Bagasse Bio Sip Lid

After introducing the first GoodLife® bagasse sip-lid two years ago to widespread acclaim, Sovereign has completely redesigned the lid and developed one of the most innovative and environmentally friendly products on the coffee market today. Made from bagasse, these domed lids are truly innovative yet functional with impeccable environmental credentials. Unlike other sip-lids that are made of plastic, these lids have a distinctive eco-friendly appearance, are robust and are easy to drink from. After use, the sip-lid is 100% compostable and will biodegrade with general food waste.

The GoodLife® bagasse sip-lid is firm and comfortable to drink from and can be used safely even with the hottest drinks. Because of the flexible sturdiness of bagasse, the bio sip-lid fits tightly on all 90mm diameter 12oz and 16oz paper hot cups in the European market. Indeed, tests have shown that the lid stays securely on the cup even if the cup is tipped over.

We were proud to be the first company in Europe to introduce a bagasse sip-lid two years ago. Following customers' feedback we have redesigned the lid and come up with one of the most unique bagasse products ever. Through technological advances and using new high-density material, we have found a method of manufacturing the first ever bagasse product to our knowledge that is smooth on both sides. Bagasse products to date have been up to now are smooth on one side and rough on the other through the usual production processes. This revolutionary new process eliminates any taste and smell issues that some customers had with the first lid. We have also made some major design changes so this lid looks more like a plastic sip-lid than ever before yet stands out amongst its peers due to its eco-friendly look. The tight right angles of the design plus teeth at the base of the lid to improve closure are both truly unique to bagasse manufactured foodservice items. Consumers can find expensive compostable PLA lids but these can be easily mistaken for any other plastic sip-lid. Aside from its considerable price advantage, The GoodLife® bagasse sip-lid looks, feels and is the most eco-friendly lid on the market today

Danny Feldman Managing Director of Sovereign

Price-wise, the bagasse sip-lid falls approximately midway between the usual market prices for high impact polystyrene and crystallized PLA lids and will therefore be welcomed by the trade as a realistic biodegradable alternative to plastic.

Bagasse

About Bagasse / Reed Pulp

The GoodLife® range of biodegradable and compostable clamshells, plates and bowls not only have the strength of plastic disposable products but also offer total environmental credibility. That is because all GoodLife® products are made from otherwise unwanted organic material - bagasse - such as the outer husks of sugar cane and cornstarch.

The fibrous residue remaining after harvest - reed pulp - is a renewable resource ideal for food-safe catering disposables

By harvesting the reeds, GoodLife® helps ensure that the waterways remain clear. All the waste material that has been collected is then transformed into useful, 100% biodegradable products for markets around the world.

GoodLife® products return to nature in weeks.

Once GoodLife® products have been used, they can all be composted - returning to mother earth in just weeks.

Where once reed and sugar cane was simply cleared and burned, the GoodLife® process has enabled these valuable natural materials to be put to worthwhile use.

Sugar cane for example can be harvested twice a year and grows quickly to around 6 metres. Carefully pulped, cooked and UV sterilised, GoodLife sugar cane pulp is then manufactured into a vast range of foodservice products - meeting tough US FDA Regulations*.

GoodLife® biodegradable foodservice products are not bleached and come in an attractive natural white.

* GoodLife® moulded fibre products meet USA FDA Code of Federal Regulations (CFR21 Section 176.170) and; comply with BfR recommendations XXXVI (including XXXVI/1 and XXXVI/2) as being suitable for use in direct contact with all classes of food including, hot, moist, dry and fatty foodstuffs.
